Lydia Dare - It Happened One Bite

Lykae/Coig Series:

It Happened One Bite: Lord James Kettering and Blair Lindsey

Summary:
20 years ago five witches came together and for some unknown to him reason enchanted James so he fell into an unnatural sleep and took his ring that is believed holds his very soul and allows him to walk about during the day. They take him to Briarcraig a castle in a remote part of the Highlands of Scotland. The five of the coven never again spoke of the incident, where they trapped a Vampyre into a deep sleep, not even to their daughter. They believed that one of their unborn daughter lives depended on never finding out that secret. Fast forward 20 years, all the woman of the previous coven have passed on and their daughter have taken up their legacy.  Blair comes from a long line of battle born witches, mother passes on to their daughter all they know of their heritage and birth rights. So when the Lindsey family inherits Briarcraig castle Blair is more than a little confused, but her older brother Aiden is too excited for their good fortune and demands they take off for Briarcraig immediately. When they arrive the manor is in disarray, but after 20 years of neglect it is to be expected. Suddenly James is starting to come out of his deep sleep, he has no idea where he is or how long he has been out of it, so when he hears people moving about upstairs he calls out for help. Blair is the one to find the strange man in the cellar and she immediately knows that her mother’s coven is the one that trapped him there, the only question is why?  And she needs to keep James around to figure that out, and wanting to keep him around has nothing to do with the fact that he is one of the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on. James needs to find his ring and he needs to find it fast, if he has come to he knows that his maker will soon find him and they will need to get out of there fast, because if Blodswell can find him than so can others… The longer he lingers the more he is drawn to Blair, he has never felt this way about a woman, like he is compelled to be with her and the more time he spends with her the less he wants to leave. When Blodswell arrives they both search for his ring and so far to no avail and Blodswell can feel the others getting closer. Blair still has not been able to figure out why her mother locked James in the cellar, but the more time she spends with him the less she cares, but when he brings danger to her family she isn’t sure that she can stick by him…

Review:
I thoroughly enjoy Lydia Dare's writing, the historical spin on the paranormal romance genre is refreshing. This tale of the witch and vampyre has a slight twist to the traditional vampyre characteristic which threw me off for a second but I really liked that spin on the tradition. I have always loved witches and L. Dare does not disappoint with Blair, she is a sassy, strong minded and bodied witch. The rest of Blair’s coven has been featured in previous books and you will see them again in this book, what’s a witch without her coven after all!  James is definitely an alpha male who doesn’t want his woman in danger even if she is capable of taking care of herself but he accepts Blair as she is and loves her with her special abilities which Blair had worried about never finding a man to love her as she is, she never wanted to end up like her mom, in a loveless marriage. How many women out there at some time or another feel like they will never love them as they are… I know I have felt that way once or twice, so you can relate to Blair in that regard easily and it makes you love James all the more!  So far it seems like Lydia Dare flies slightly below the radar but I really hope that more people find her and fall in love like I have! Next up is Rhiannon and I can’t wait for her story!
