Review:
This is my favorite book of the series so far. In this book, one of Kates only friends is dying. Derek, who we have come to know and love, was in trouble when Kate had to rush in and rescue him from theft charge. Kate realizes Derek is in more trouble than he will admit too. When she next sees him, he is fighting for his life. A lethal team called the Reapers attacked Derek and basically tore him to shreds and now he is not healing. Kate doesn’t consider many friends, but Derek is towards the top of that list and she is willing to do anything to find and kill his attackers, including going against THE alpha, Curran. Kate and crew have three days to solve the mystery that are the Reapers, before Curran finds them and takes them off the case.
This assignment is personal to Kate and it shines through, now she is fighting for something more she is fighting for her friend. Kate is going to have to pull out everything if she is going to save Derek. She is going to do what she has been taught to NEVER do, she is going public. To get to the Reapers she will have to do something she never thought she would do again, fight in an area to the death. In this book, we find out more about Kate’s past and her lineage. Due to the nature of the fight she finds herself reflecting back more and more. Her past is both intriguing and heartbreaking.
This book is all about teamwork, because it is more than just Kate that wants revenge for Derek! Kate is going to have to pull in all of her friends if she is going to pull this one off. But they have to do it all while evading Curran which is no easy feat! The tension between Kate and Curran is at an all-time high with this book. He is carefully stalking his prey and trying to maneuver her where he wants her, in his bed! Kate is not cooperating and is ducking him at every turn. Kate has three days to evade Curran, find the Reapers weakness (as there appears to be none) and win the tournament and the Wolf Diamond all without getting herself or her crew killed. Kate can pack a lot in three days, but at the end of it she may lose her life at the worst or become the hunted at the least, but it is a risk she is willing to take.
